Precision Products Group (“PPG”) is an integrated, lean manufacturing enterprise producing machined, extremely tight tolerance parts and complex assemblies for motion control applications including, but not limited to: transmissions, starters, APUs, reducers, pumps, gearboxes and wheels & brakes. Our goal is to consistently exceed our customers’ expectations for quality, delivery, performance and cost.

The PPG family includes four complementary business units:
  1. Overton Chicago Gear: wide array of mission critical gearing and gearboxes including custom engineering, design, repair, and replacement for virtually every application; a true one-stop shop for all of your industrial gearing and gearbox needs; with Design and Build to Print Capability (Addison, Lombard, & Chicago, IL)
  2. Precision Aero: extensively engineered fusible plugs and other precision machined aircraft wheel and brake components; with Build to Print Capability (Troy, OH)
  3. Crown Precision: wide array of precision aerospace hydraulic and actuation system components and assemblies, including rod ends, bearings, caps, pinions & much more; with Build to Print Capability (Irwindale, CA)
  4. Sungear: complex internal/external spur & helical gears as well as gearbox assemblies for mission-critical applications in the aerospace industry; with Build to Print Capability (San Diego, CA)

PPG is committed to:

  • Process driven precision that minimizes waste and reduces cost.
  • Sustained, continuous improvement of systems in every facet of our operations.
  • Strict compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Achieving superior Six Sigma levels of quality v. the competition by maximizing part-to-part consistency and minimizing customer risk.
  • Challenging our people to be the best.

Aerospace, Defense, Steel, Wind, Oil & Gas, Minerals & Mining, Marine, Locomotive, Heavy Truck, Sugar, Rubber, Medical and Industrial Applications.

As an engineering driven group, we have exceptional engineering capability and are domain experts at maximizing product lifecycles. PPG is the leading gear and machining manufacturer in its industries because we have the uncommon ability to manufacture gears and machined products that range in size from ½” to 7.4 meters (nearly touching the ceiling of our manufacturing facilities). We are recognized as the go to source for long life, high durability machined components in a wide range of size envelopes and materials, and we provide all of the data and services to verify that our products are the best.

Because of our unique technical abilities to service and meet the demanding tolerances of the Aerospace industry, we are able to apply the same rigid quality assurance protocols to all our products in all the industries served. Regardless of the size or quantity of customer orders, our environmentally controlled facilities give us the competitive advantage to quickly adjust our cells to meet tight time constraints and provide the shortest lead times possible.

Our many degreed engineers with decades of experience work together in a team matrix producing hundreds of custom gearing and machining solutions annually.

Our motto is “the tougher the part...the more we excel to solve the challenge and meet our customer’s needs.”

We thrive on manufacturing challenges and make the parts our competitors no-quote. PPG has its own in-house heat treat facility, including the largest die quenching unit* in North America with the unique capability of quenching gears up to 82 inches in diameter. As an ISO 9001 & AS 9100 compliant organization, we are able to manufacture and inspect gears up to American Gear Manufacturers Association ("AGMA") Class 15 specifications (the highest classification). We maintain excellent satisfaction ratings from our customers in many cases achieving “gold” status. A team-oriented organization, PPG employs only the best machining and gearing people in the world to service our customers.

* Die quenching provides controlled hardening in restraining dies of close tolerance internal and external gearing to ensure dimensional control as well as uniform hardening providing our customers with durable products that withstand any field application.

At PPG, we realize that our customers have to make choices about who to trust with their business. Our mission is to make our customers’ choices easier by continuing to improve in our ability to design, build, assemble, and test those products (and more!) and to deliver them on time with superior quality at a fair price. We work hard to earn both your trust and your business.
